  • Country of Citizenship: Applicants must be citizens of a participating country, and they must be residing in and applying for the scholarship from their country of citizenship as listed on the Australia Awards website.
  • Relationship Status: Applicants must not be married to, engaged to, or in a de facto relationship with an individual who holds, or is eligible to hold, Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency at any point during the application, selection, or mobilization phases. (Note: Residents of Cook Islands, Niue, and Tokelau with New Zealand citizenship are eligible but must apply for a Student visa [subclass 500]).
  • Previous Australia Awards: Applicants must not have previously received a long-term Australia Award unless they have resided outside of Australia for a period twice as long as their previous time spent in Australia. For example, if a previous awardee has been on an Australia Awards Scholarship in Australia for four years, they will not be eligible to apply for another Australia Awards Scholarship until they have resided outside Australia for eight years.

  • Military Service: Applicants must not be currently serving military personnel.
  • Specific Criteria: Applicants must fulfill any specific criteria established by the Program Area or the government of their country of citizenship. This may include having worked a certain number of years in a relevant sector.

  • Disclosure of Connections: Applicants must inform the Program Area if they have any connection or relationship with staff employed at Program Areas (including locally engaged staff at post) or with managing contractors. This is to ensure proper and transparent management of the application process.
